Eileen (2009–2011)

I was a member of the Irish-style folk-rock band Eileen from 2009 to 2011. The line-up was Susanne Staberg (violin), Mikael Ingebäck (vocals, guitar), Erland Hofgaard (bass), Andreas Eriksson (bass), Robin Wernebratt (drums), and me (flute).

During that period, the band played a long series of concerts and also organised FolkFest in Lidköping, which in 2010 and 2011 grew into major events with bands from all over the world. A CD featuring Eileen's concert at FolkFest 2010 was released.

Tangle (2008–2010)

The band Tangle existed during the period 2008–2010 with permanent members Björn Nyberg (bass), Svenna Granit (electric guitar), Håkan Åkerblom (drums), and me (flute). Other members who participated during various periods were Mårten Larsson (trumpet), Philip Mauritzson (tenor saxophone), and Emma Svensson (tenor saxophone).

Tangle’s songs were created through jam sessions in the rehearsal room.

Carrilho Jensen Nyberg (Sep.tember 2009)

The trio Carrilho Jensen Nyberg existed for a couple of weeks in the autumn of 2009 while the Brazilian guitarist Frederick Carrilho was visiting me in Gothenburg. We studied various musical traditions and played each other’s works.

Before Fred left, we collaborated with the electronic sound master Björn Nyberg in his studio. The result can be heard below (also check out Björn on Spotify).

Simon Jensen Band (2003–2008)

The band existed with two different line-ups during the period 2003–2008. The first line-up (until 2006) was Per Fenger-Krog (piano, organ), Peter Nilsson (bass), Oskar Bergenheim (drums), and me (flute). This was the group that recorded the debut album All You Can Eat in 2005:

The second line-up was Jack Andersson (acoustic guitar), Daniel Jägerholt (electric guitar), Marcello Musumeci (bass), Lars Rosengren (drums, percussion), and me (flute). A few tracks were released informally in the summer of 2007, but this material is now available on the album Flute Flashes 2004–2009.

någon (2000–2003)

The band någon (with a lowercase n, meaning someone) was active 2000–2003 and consisted of Joel Gröndahl (tenor saxophone, bass clarinet), Erik Fridell (accordion), Per Fenger-Krog (piano, organ), Carl Söderström (bass, harmonica), and me (flute). It was five strong personalities in a circus-like formation, brimming with youthful energy.

The first three tracks below were recorded in a professional and expensive studio, where the band had booked exactly two hours starting at 10 a.m. We arrived 25 minutes late, and two of us had been partying hard until five that morning. Somehow, despite this, the result turned out remarkably well.

Grovjobb (1997–2001)

I played with the psychedelic folk-rock band Grovjobb for five years. During that period, the band consisted of Jerry Johansson (guitar), Jesper Jarold (bass), Ola W. Jensen (drums), and me (flute, and occasionally alto saxophone). Our third album was released in 2001, and shortly afterwards the band broke up.

In the summer of 2023, this original line-up reunited after more than 20 years for a festival performance, but due to "creative differences" I chose not to continue after that gig. Grovjobb, however, still exists and has since released a new album.

Patricia Painting (1993–1996)

I co-founded the rock band Patricia Painting, which existed during some of the wildest years of my youth in Denmark. Members of the band were Morten Jørgensen (lead vocals, guitar), Søren Kjær (cello), Jonas la Cour (guitar, backing vocals), Arvid Bro Thuestad (bass), Rasmus Rørbæk (drums), and me (flute, backing vocals).

Patricia Painting gained some recognition through a few national talent competitions, and we played a lot of gigs and had several tracks featured on a couple of compilation CDs  —  but, unfortunately, we broke up before we could make our planned debut album.
